School Improvement Programme
The Sycol programme provides a comprehensive set of tools and resources for improving your school through building strong Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and is tried and tested in raising standards across the board.
As a member school you will receive resources to guide you through the three stages of the programme:
Build: Focus Points that develop the capacity of staff to improve the school working in teams and PLCs
Embed: Focus Points that deliver improvement in Teaching & Learning; Behaviour; Safety; Distributed Leadership; Environment and Continuous Improvement.
Sustain: Focus Points to ensure that improvements remain and deliver long term, whole-school transformation.
Manuals accompany each stage with additional resources online within your school Members’ Area.
We encourage schools to think about each stage as requiring an academic year to complete, but this time frame can be shortened if required (for example, in responding to an Ofsted directive).
Membership to the programme is paid for each year (for 3 years) or as and when you progress through each stage.
We will introduce the programme to all your staff as an ‘Initial Staff Training’, delivered either as a whole day, half day or twilight session.
Following this, a smaller group of staff (no fewer than five) undergo a 1 day training in order to be your Programme Leads.
To maximise working in Professional Learning Communities it makes sense to join the programme with others. There are benefits if you decide to participate in the Sycol Programme as a cluster or group of schools, including –
Sharing and supporting good practice across your network.
Opportunities for coming together to train and reflect.
A common language for systemic imporvement across schools.
This way of joining also reduces cost; for example
Sycol Leads from participating schools can be trained together
10 or more schools joining receive a 10% discount on Year 1 Membership.
